Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.” – George Bernard Shaw, Irish writer
There is a reason why we never seem to get to where we want to go, why the same bad things seem to always happen to us. And no, it isn’t because we are cursed. It’s because we don’t change the way we think.
Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t easy to change how you think. There is your whole life up to this point of experience that goes into you making the decisions that you do. The only way you will ever get different results, however, is if you find a way to do something completely outside of what makes sense to you.
You see, progress doesn’t come from small changes, because small changes usually don’t involve any real change at all. We think we’re doing something different, but in reality we are doing the same thing; we’re just looking at it from a different perspective. And if we’re doing the same thing, we’d be crazy to expect different results, right?
So how can you tell if it’s a real change or not? Again, if it makes sense to you, then you’re thinking along the same lines that you always have and you’re going to get the same results.
If you want to make the kind of radical change that could result in real progress, try doing the wrong thing.
Now, I’m not saying that it’s going to work out for you by doing what you think is wrong. What I am saying is that you think you know what’s going to happen, which is why you wouldn’t ordinarily do it. And you could be right. But you could also be wrong, and you’d never know it unless you tried.
So if the way you think now and the things you’re doing aren’t working, then tell me, what have you got to lose? Do the wrong thing, and when that doesn’t work out, do another wrong thing. Keep doing what you know to be wrong until you find what turns out to be right.
