Probably the two biggest challenges we face with our phones are running out of battery power and using too much data.
In a new report, AVG Technologies lists some of the biggest drainers of your phone’s battery and your data package.

In addition to monitoring your use of these apps, here are a few other things you can do to conserve your battery and data:
- Turn off game apps when not in use — some run all the time, whether you’re playing or not.
- Turn off Bluetooth and GPS if you’re not using them.
- Dim the screen to 50%.
- Turn off location services, especially on Facebook.
- Adjust your email settings — every time your phone pings or checks an email server, it is running down battery and using data. Increase the time between email checks, or turn email off altogether.
And if you’d like to know for sure what your biggest energy and data suckers are instead of guessing, Apple’s iOS 8 now tells you. For Android phones, you can download the app “Spare Parts Plus” or “GSam Battery Monitor.”
