The beginning of the end for Google+ Photos comes on August 1st. First the Android version will be shut down, followed soon after by the Web and iOS versions of the photo sharing solution on Google’s social network Google+.
Not to worry, though. Users of Google+ Photos will be transitioned over to Google’s new Google Photos (no +). Google Photos, launched in May, is an unlimited free photo host.
And if you miss the deadline, your photos will still be available by way of Google Takeout.
The move is in large part to have one consolidated platform without the confusion that goes with having a + after the name or not.
Some features of Google+ Photos have yet to be rolled over into Google Photos, like the ability to push pictures to Chromecast or support for PhotoSphere hosting.
