Never Settle For Good — You’ll Regret It Later

John D

Don’t be afraid to give up the good to go for the great.” — John D. Rockefeller, business magnate and richest man in US history

One of the biggest obstacles to success is security. It’s easy to take a chance on something, to take a chance on yourself, when you have nothing to lose. But when things are going ok, how many people have the courage to risk it all or give it up to pursue their bigger dream?

Like any obstacle, you can’t let security stop you from getting what you really want. Remind yourself that what got you to good will get you to great. And in the event you fail, you can pick yourself back up and try again.

Settling for good seems like a decent idea when you’re young, but when you get older and time starts to run short and opportunities become fewer, that settling turns into a bitter-tasting regret. Any time you don’t try, you’re haunted by the possibility that you could have succeeded. That’s why it’s better to try and fail than not to try at all, no matter what your conservative friends and relatives tell you.

So stop wishing, stop dreaming, and go for it. As much as you think you can’t afford to, in the long run, you can’t afford not to.
