Natalie Portman Stars In Femme-Centric Western ‘Jane Got A Gun’

New Western Jane Got a Gun tells the story of a woman named Jane Hammond (Portman) who must turn to her ex-fiancé (Edgerton) for help after the Bishop Boys Gang guns down her husband and sets their sights on her and her family.

The independently-financed film has been plagued by delays, beginning with director Lynne Ramsay failing to show up for the first day of production in March 2013.  That caused actor Jude Law to jump ship, who was already a replacement for Bradley Cooper, who earlier abandoned the project.   The release was later delayed by the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing of Relativity Media.  Then the Paris premiere was delayed by the terrorist attacks there.

It’s been a calamity in the truest sense of the word.  On top of which, expectations for the film aren’t high.

The movie was directed by Gavin O’Connor (Ramsay’s replacement) and produced by Natalie Portman, Aleen Keshishian, Zack Schiller, Mary Regency Boies, Scott Steindorff, Scott LaStaiti and Terry Dougas. It stars Natalie Portman, Joel Edgerton, Ewan McGregor, Noah Emmerich, Rodrigo Santoro and Boyd Holbrook.

It’s set to be released in the US on January 29.
