Messi’s Double Powers Barca 2-0 Over Arsenal

Lionel Messi scored twice to effectively condemn Arsenal to a sixth successive exit at the last-16 stage of the Champions League.

  • The two decisive goals at the Emirates Stadium gave Barcelona a 2-0 win in their first leg game with Arsenal.

  • Arsenal was resolute in defending but couldn’t contain Barcelona’s superstar trio of Messi, Neymar and Suarez.

  • Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Oliver Giroid came close but weren’t rewarded for their effort.

  • Messi fired his first goal past Petr Cech in the 71st minute and doubled the advantage 12 minutes later after he was brought down by substitute Mathieu Flamini.
