Bisa Kdei dominated the Citi FM MOGO Awards (Music of Ghanaian Origin) held Saturday, March 5 at the Alisa Hotel Ridge Arena in Accra.
Out of 10 categories, Bisa was nominated in 7, and he took the awards in 5. In addition to picking the biggest award of the night, Artiste of the Year, he also won Song of the Year (Mansa), Songwriter of the Year, Best Male Act and Best Collaboration for the song Pimpinaa with Obrafour.
Taking a little of the excitement out of the award show, however, was the fact that Bisa couldn’t be there to collect all his awards as he’s currently touring outside Ghana. His manager, Kojo Akuffo, picked the awards on his behalf.
The MOGO Awards is the climax of Citi FM’s weeklong MOGO Festival (which officially began this year on February 29), which celebrates genuine and original Ghanaian highlife music as well as awards artistes who have made contributions to keep the highlife genre alive.
Musicians who graced the occasion with their great performances included Amakye Dede, Bessa Simons, Ebo Taylor and Bod Pinodo.
In addition to the 10 award categories, a Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Bob Pinodo and Ebo Taylor.
