Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24
Any motivational speaker, book or website will tell you that one of the biggest keys to success in life is feeling positive about yourself and expecting positive results with whatever you do. Not only does feeling positive cause you to do things confidently, it encourages you to put in the work that’s really needed to make what you want a reality.
We’ve all experienced the opposite — when we feel bad about ourselves and it seems like everything starts to go wrong. Or when we’re doing something we’ve had success at before, and for some reason it isn’t going right, and the more times it goes wrong, the more likely it is to go wrong again. That’s the power of expectation, positive or negative.
The same principle is at play when you pray. You need to believe that the Lord hears your prayers and will answer them. You need to believe you have the most powerful, loving, and gracious god on your side, therefore how could things possibly not go your way.
God will answer your prayers, no doubt, but in addition, your belief that He will not allow you to fail will encourage you to do the work that is your part in making it happen.
If you pray with no expectation of your prayer being answered, odds are you’re going to sit around waiting to tell people you’re right, that prayer doesn’t work. But if you pray to God and have absolute faith that He rewards His faithful, then you’re going to get up and make moves in tandem with God and see the results that astound nonbelievers.
And remember that for prayer to be answered it must be something that pleases God. So if you’re praying for and working toward righteous goals, you can fully expect the Lord to bless your efforts.
